Scenic Pyrenees
This trip will take you through some of the most emblematic places on both sides of the Pyrenees. Starting with Biarritz, birthplace of Maria Eugenia´s palace that Napoleon III built in her honor. Also enjoying a visit to the Abbadia castle, where its owner would observe the ships that arrived at the port of the city in the XIX century. To continue our way to the northern route of the pilgrimage route of Compostela, also known as Camino de Santiago, in the town of San Juan Pied de Port. You will also enjoy the gastronomic delights of this beautiful mountainous region that include the best cheeses in the world, red Espelette peppers (which even Michelle Obama took home) followed by a cultural route visiting traditional Basque homes, museums and nature’s beauties .
Dayly itinerary
D1: Participants will arrive at Biarritz airport and will be picked up and driven to the hotel in Les Landes. Appetizers and welcome drinks followed by dinner at the hotel. Depending on the arrival time, we might take a light walk in Hossegor.
D2: Day trip to Biarritz, where we’ll visit chateau, historical monuments that were royalty’s favourite getaway spots to relax and enjoy time, as well as enjoy typical food from the Pays Basque region.
D3: Visit Espelette, a charming little town widely known for its peppers, and ancient history. Where we’ll visit the town, and have hands-on experience with a local pepper producer, who will explain step by step what makes these peppers unique and distinct from any other out there.
D4: Visit Zugarramurdi’s caves, where its magical history will take you back in time to the Inquisition, mentioned in the triology del Baztan by Dolores Redondo. We will also visit the Train de la Rhume, where the view will amaze you. Eat lunch at a typical basque/spanish restaurant and dinner at the hotel.
D5: Atelier close to the hotel, where we’ll deepen our understanding of the richness of the region. Lunch and dinner served by a well known local restaurant. Get ready for tomorrow’s walk.
D6: Day long trip to Saint Jean pied de port, where we’ll be walking one of the most widely known pilgrimage Camino de Santiago, we will walk 12km, from Saint Jean pied de port to Valcarlos/Luzaide. Lunch will be picnic style and dinner will be at the hotel.
D7: We will go to San Sebastian, a coastal town in Spain’s Basque Country, which has the most Michelin starred restaurants by square meter in Europe, and is widely known for its tapas and pintxos. After eating some tapas, visiting La concha and other historical monuments, we will head to Pasaia, a charming little town, where we’ll visit a Sagardotegi/ cider house for dinner.
D8: We will take you back to Biarritz Airport with a little gift/souvenir that will make sure you never forget this trip.
